Pendulums are one of the most fun divination tools ever.  At the New Age store that I once worked at, we’d play with the display models during slow afternoons.  Always a hoot.

Pendulums are a great way to get a quick “yes” or “no” answers.  And you get a real experience of the physical energy that makes up all things spiritual.   Some folks really go nuts with their pendulum, using them to dowse for water or other resources, or to spell out answers on a spirit board.  I prefer the simpler method:

First, find a pendulum that really speaks to you.  There are so many different types, made from different crystals or other materials.  Like a Tarot deck, choose a pendulum that appeals to you.  You’ll know it when you see and/or feel it.

Oooh....pretty!
Oooh….pretty!

To work with it, pick a time when you’ll be relaxed and calm.  Hold the pendulum in your non-dominant hand, balancing your elbow on the table.  Using your “other” hand helps access the unconscious more easily.

Take some deep breaths and allow the pendulum to become still.  Envision your space filled with protective white light.  This keeps any janky energies out of the equation.

You want to discover which direction will indicate “yes” and which will be “no.”  So ask the pendulum:  “Show me “yes.’”  Watch the direction it swings.

Now, “Show me ‘no’.”

As you hold the pendulum, notice how heavy it feels.  There’s a distinct energy that runs along the chain, and that’s what you want to concentrate on maintaining as you work with it.  When it really starts swinging, its pretty cool to feel that powerful vibe at work.

Now its time to ask your question.  You can either say it out loud or in your mind.  Remain very still, your elbow steady on the table, your hand quiet.  The pendulum will begin to swing in either a “yes” or “no” direction.

Sometimes, the pendulum will sort of spin aimlessly.  That means the answer isn’t clear yet, or its not the right time to ask the question (because you’ve already asked  the same one 18 times).

I like to keep a little notebook with the answers in it, as a reference.  I also keep my pendulum in a special box, along with my Tarot cards.  You build up a unique energy with divination tools, an energy you want to preserve.

Like any divination tool, you don’t want to overdo it.  The pendulum, tarot, I-ching or psychics are meant to give you some insight, not become a crutch.  Allow it to guide you in making decisions – but make sure you run your own life.

If you need a more in-depth look at something than what a pendulum can show you, I’m always here to help with a reading.
