I got an email from a friend the other day about her mother. Mom was in the hospital, undergoing some tests, and was understandably a nervous wreck. In the past, my friend had told me that she wished her mom could be more “open” to the spiritual and metaphysical worlds – but nope, that’s just not how this woman rolled.
However, spirit can sneak up on you.
As Mom was laying there, waiting to be wheeled in, an attending nurse came in. Her nametag read “Carmela,” which happened to be the name of Mom’s grandmother.
Then another nurse came in with some paperwork for her to sign. Her nametag read the name of Mom’s mother. And she used that cute (and overused) phrase, “I just need your ‘John Hancock.’” Turns out that Mom’s father had worked for that company.
My friend tells me that Mom’s face relaxed considerably as she asked, “I think those were signs that they’re near me today.”
As Fonzie said back on Happy Days, “Exactamundo.”
Here’s the deal about signs. Many of us assume (or hope) that they will come in a very specific form of our determination, or that they’ll be done in skywriting. The truth is, signs are frequently much more subtle than that – but their timing is always impeccable. It’s just that we lunkheads often miss them. Because we put our own conditions on things. We need to let go of the reins and let them speak to us on their own terms and timing.
What I want to stress is that, like my friend’s mother, you will KNOW a “sign” coming from your loved ones or guides on the Other Side when you experience it. There’s something slightly “different” – the timing, the place, that sort of thing. As I tell my psychic development students, “Trust what you get.” Don’t overthink or excuse these moments of magic; let your heart (and intuition) be the barometer by which you judge a sign. Here are more of my thoughts about this topic.
I recently stumbled across an article about the spiritual community of Lily Dale in upstate New York. It brought back a bunch of memories about a trip that I took there a few years back, which I feel like revisiting.
If you’re not familiar, here’s a quick refresher: Lily Dale was established well over a century ago as a community of spiritualist mediums. The area itself (north of Buffalo – and a long-ass drive from my home in New Jersey) has a long association with Native Americans and has great energy. This is one reason why it was chosen. It’s a favorite destination of anyone seeking spiritual growth.
The community is tiny. You need to park your car outside of the neighborhood and walk in. While there, you can take classes, attend lectures or daily public “message services” where the mediums deliver words from loved ones on the Other Side.
More importantly, you can avail yourself of any of the dozens of mediums who live and work inside Lily Dale. In order to nab one of the cute little Victorian homes dotting the streets, mediums must go through some rigorous vetting. It’s reportedly like the world’s toughest hazing ceremony. So customers have pretty high hopes for the quality of the readings. Especially after said “long-ass drive.”
When my friend Janet and I finally got there, we felt the “energy” of the place immediately. We checked into their ancient hotel, then started poking around up and down the tiny streets
The resident mediums hang out a shingle, letting you know they’re available for a walk-in appointment (some of the more popular ones require advance bookings). Janet and I had agreed beforehand that if one of us went in first for a reading, we’d give a discreet “thumbs up” or “down” to let the other know if it was worth following on.
Over the weekend, we each did a few readings, some together, others independently. Most were perfectly fine – nothing mind-blowing, but nothing that especially sucked, either.
But there was one reading that DID stand out – and not in a good way. Janet went in to a young woman’s parlor while I waited on the porch. When she emerged 30 minutes later, her eyes were wild and she was subtly shaking her head in my direction. The medium had a smile on her face, like “Next?” – but I was up from the lawn chair and off the porch before she knew it.
Turns out, this reader did something I am vehemently against, as are most readers that I know of: she had told Janet that she was dying. Of cancer. I’m still mad, just writing that. SO irresponsible, and you know what? Not for her to put that in someone’s head. I spent the rest of our time talking my friend off the ledge – and came very close to writing a letter to whomever chooses the Lily Dale readers.
A psychic reading is very intimate, and the client is especially vulnerable at the time– they open themselves to the reader. Health issues are especially dodgy; when people ask me for that kind of information, I’ll do an energy scan, but I always, ALWAYS tell them that if they have specific concerns, go see a doctor, not a psychic. ‘Cause we are far from perfect.
And I’m always aware that you don’t want to put anything negative in their psyche. Because we can easily create some bad “juju” if someone else tells us that’s what’s on the menu. This is essentially how voodoo works – or any other “mind control” method, for that matter.
Now, while I personally wasn’t overly impressed by Lily Dale’s readers (and hey, they’re entitled to having an ‘off’ day), I also feel for them: the history and standards about the place set up some insane expectations.
To balance it out, there were some positive things about my visit to Lily Dale: several “otherworldly” moments where I connected with spirits on the Other Side; many ghostly experiences in the woods around the place, learning about the earliest days of the spiritualist movement – and evidence of the interactions from those times (check out the onsite museum). Plus, when I got home, I was “inspired” to adopt my kitty, Pyewacket (long story –but Lily Dale def had a hand in the decision).
I think my main takeaway from my visit to Lily Dale is that one needs to maintain their own power; psychic-mediums can provide powerful insights, and that’s what most of us strive to do. For clients, it’s tempting to hand things over to an “expert.” But in the end, all of us are responsible for our own life. This is why each of us is here: to make the best of the lessons handed to us. Psychics can provide guidance, but you need to pull the trigger. Or not.
So my message to you is this: don’t be too dazzled by the reputation of any psychic, psychic place or spiritual summer camp. Keep it in perspective. Psychics are not magicians; we are human. So take what you get in a reading and use what rings true to move you forward – not freeze you in a place of fear and powerlessness. You should NEVER leave a reading feeling hopeless or scared. You should come away feeling ready to kick some ass.
PS — I just finished an interesting book about Lily Dale. Find it here.
The Beach Boys sang about it – and so did a pre-“serious actor” Marky Mark. I’m talking about “good vibrations.” “Vibrations”, as in a higher energy. “Good”, as in, well, good.
Working effectively with any metaphysical practice (like Tarot), or entities (like angels), requires adjusting our energy. That’s because our usual human energetic state just chugs along. We go on autopilot, with our vibration sort of “powered down.”
Not to mention, today’s environment pounds the crap out of our energy, between the food, toxins and endless electronic distraction we’re subject to. In that state, it can be tough to sense the presence of the higher-functioning beings that are always around us and want to help.
So humans and those other beings need to sort of “meet in the middle.” They slow their fast-moving energy down, while we raise ours. It’s a little bit like those planes that get fueled in mid-air.
“Raising energy” is different for everyone. Personally, I get uncomfortable if I feel too “buzzy,” so I’ve learned how to monitor myself as I do any exercise, and then dial it up or down as needed.
Regular meditation is and has always been the standard way to actively raise and control our energetic vibration, but here are some other things that can be done, pretty much anywhere:
-Drink water. Water conducts electricity. Electricity is a form of energy. Staying well hydrated keeps your vibe going.
I also like to write an intention on my water bottle, like “Health,” “Joy” or whatever I need. Water, boosted with an intention, has enormous power: the molecules are changed –literally. There was an experiment done in which water droplets were either prayed over or yelled at. When viewed through a microscope, the prayed-for water exhibited a beautiful crystalline structure; the yelled-at ones looked dark, raw and dirty. Intention really packs a punch; make yours positive ones.
-Practice gratitude. Focus on what you have versus what you don’t, what’s going well versus what sucks. That upgrades your vibration in a huuuuge way, because “gratitude-energy” resonates at a very high level. I like writing down 5 things each day that I’m grateful for.
On today’s menu, it was:
1) waking up in a warm, comfy bed
2) the “regulars” at the diner who always make me smile
3) the leaves turning colors outside my window
4) a hot shower and a cup of coffee
5) my three healthy, snuggly cats
Right now, what 5 things are YOU grateful for?
-Listen to Buddhist or Gregorian chants. Not only do they sound gorgeous, there’s a very high spiritual energy attached to these particular forms of music. No surprise they’re key parts of two grand spiritual traditions.
-Jump up and down. I’m not kidding. Physical activity raises physical energy — and your vibration. Dancing, walking, whatever will do the trick. But it’s been shown that just jumping up and down “excites” the cells in the body and makes them healthier. Hey, Van Halen was on to something….
Besides it being a part of working with angels, spirit guides or those on the Other Side, a higher energetic vibration is key to the Law of Attraction: when we sense the very real Universal Flow, we can then direct that heightened awareness and clarity to manifest what we want in our life.
But here’s the thing about raising your vibration: things in your life may start to go amazingly well. In fact, maybe too well. You may start to worry that something “bad” is bound to happen, that no one deserves all these blessings. Just remember that this state of increased happiness and awareness is what we’re supposed to be experiencing. That joy then ripples out to the rest of the world, so you getting a big break puts a smile on your face, which then makes you more likely to show kindness to someone else, and so on…Good stuff for you is good for everyone. Get it?
Life holds a balance, so yes, there will be tough times – they hold lessons for us, it’s just the natural order. But the truth is that we can experience a greater percentage of “good stuff” over “bad” when our vibration is better aligned with Universal Source. And we can handle challenges much more efficiently, because we can call on help from the Other Side – and actually sense it/work with it for a change.
So in any metaphysical or spiritual pursuit – or just plain old daily life –consider a heightened frequency as the gas that makes the car go. Get ready to go a whole lot faster!
I recently had a client here who told me that he was taking a psychic development class. But he quickly added that he had no intention of “turning pro” like Yours Truly. Another one of my blog followers posted something similar in a comment.
As if becoming a professional psychic, medium, animal communicator or whatever is the only goal. It most certainly is not. And it doesn’t mean you have to use whatever gifts you possess to read your cousin/sister/co-worker whenever they ask you to.
Learning to tap into the hidden ways that the Universe speaks to us every single day is something well worth your time. It can completely change the game, make you see things in a fresh new light, and give you unexpected tools to solve your problems.
My own journey started when a girlfriend told me about a psychic development course she was taking. It sounded fun, so I signed up, too. The first night blew my mind, and from that moment on, my whole life would be different. I dove right in, opting to further develop my abilities because it gave me a new way to do my life.
Reading professionally happened by accident when a New Age store opened by me. I wandered in to have a look, started a conversation with the owner and before I knew it, she asked if I’d like to do readings for customers. The rest is history.
I enjoy being a professional psychic; but there is absolutely no rule saying that you have to do the same. Psychic and metaphysical information is fundamentally meant to enrich life in ways you can’t even imagine.
Whether it’s a single book, an ongoing class or even just reading my blog (thank you!) – make some room in your life to explore the metaphysical world on a regular (OK, semi-regular) basis. Whatever speaks to you: Akashic Records, mediumship, angels, Reiki and energy healing, Wicca, Tarot, past-life regression – there’s an endless subject list, and it’s all fascinating.
If you’re like me, you may find that bits and pieces make the most sense. My library is a complete mash-up of topics. Some of those books really engage me; others make me roll my eyes (those are the ones I re-sell on Amazon!). I’ve taken some fascinating classes, and some that made me want to suck down an airplane bottle of gin in the ladies room during our breaks. All of it helped me find my own “psychic style” — which is more like a crazy quilt.
You may opt to delve deeply into a single subject and make that your primary focus. It doesn’t matter: all that information is out there to help us become better, stronger, wiser humans. You’ll find your groove.
Although you may be inspired to share what you’re discovering, remember: using what you learn to benefit others is not a pre-requisite. Let what you unearth transform you first. Then see where it takes you. Or doesn’t. Each of us has a unique path. That’s the beauty of it.
PS – if you want some fun ways to start opening your own channel, check out these posts. Here’s one….and another….and another.
My neighbor, Harry, just passed away. It was sudden and sad, during a beach vacation with his family. At the wake, his widow hugged me, and told me that he had brought my book to read while hanging out under the umbrella. I was touched.
She also mentioned how weird it was that 1) her butterfly bush was loaded with the critters the day after he passed and 2) when their assistant walked into the office, the only computer that was on was his. Even though all the equipment had been turned off beforehand. (Spirit people do love their electronics).
I take these as comforting signs that he’s still around. Yes, he’s moved on to the next plane of existence, but he’s still very much able to touch in with his loved ones to let them know he’s cool. And better than OK.
This is one of the reasons I wrote my book, OK, So You’re Dead: A Sassy Guide to the Afterlife. I get sooooo many questions about people who’ve crossed over – and how to carry on once they’ve made that jump. Face it, death kicks you in the teeth. Whether it’s a person or a beloved pet, the experience is a gamechanger.
Having said that, here are my 7 favorite signs that someone who’s passed is nearby:
1) Feathers: white feathers are commonly regarded as a sign from spirit. Sometimes you’ll find a big fat one; but small ones are no less potent. I was sitting outside the other day meditating when a tiny white feather drifted right down from nowhere. Sweet.
2) Butterflies. What a sign of transformation! You don’t necessarily have to see a live one; a photo or one on TV also counts.
3) Dragonflies. With their ability to “walk on water” (literally), dragonflies remind us to look beneath the surface. And, like the explanation above, an image will do.
4) Coins. Notice where and when you find them, if they’re especially shiny or have a significant date on them.
5) Music. Flip on the radio after thinking of someone and notice what random lyrics have to say. Also, a particular artist may remind you of someone on the Other Side.
6) Rainbows. Judy Garland sang about ‘em for a reason. And they were a sign to Noah that the storm had passed.
7) Sparkles of light. When you catch them out of the corner of your eye, you can be sure it’s the presence of spirit.
The thing about these indicators is, they stand out. There’s something out of the ordinary about when, where and how you experience them. Let them bring you reassurance that your loved ones are just fine — and watching over you.
If you’d like to further explore the subject of the Other Side, hope you’ll check out the book. It’s available in paperback, for Kindle of Nook.
OK, off to raise a glass to Harry.
PS — And I’d love to hear your own stories of contact with loved ones on the Other Side…leave it in the comments!
Money issues are always a biggie when someone comes to me for a reading. Unless you’re a Trump or Kardashian, cash flow is on most of our minds these days.
Now, let’s be real: I believe one has to be practical in money matters (balance the checkbook, be responsible, blah blah blah). But I also believe that our attitude plays a huuuuuge part in our prosperity picture.
If you worry constantly about not having enough, feel limited in how much you can earn, anything that signals “lack” –well, that creates an energetic block. It’s that self-fulfilling prophecy thing.
Money is one of those things that affects us on a very deep level. Changing your beliefs about money can be tricky – but this is where the angels can help.
Angels are super-tough but super-loving beings, with only one thing on their daily “to do” list: to help humans achieve their best life. They are very keyed in to the fact that the Universe ALWAYS provides – its just that we get in our own way. ‘Cause we have a hard time seeing past our own noses.
So here’s an exercise that can help you get in touch with the innate flow of abundance and prosperity that’s always available to you.
THE ABUNDANCE TREE
Start by turning off your phone, taking a bunch of deep breaths and totally relaxing. Take as much time as you need to really get comfortable and quiet.
Now picture yourself standing outside, with a beautiful gate in front of you. On the other side of this gate is a gorgeous private garden housing your very own Abundance Tree. Open the gate and step inside. Take a look around and notice the sights and smells. Really make this a real place.
In the distance, you can see a gorgeous, richly leafed tree. Walk towards it.
As you get closer, you see that the tree is made up of currency. Now you’re right under it, and as you look up into the branches, you see bills of all denominations – even checks made out in your name. The tree is loaded – literally.
As you gaze at this amazing sight, your Guardian Angel arrives and stands next to you. In their hands, they are holding a receptacle. Look at it: is it a small cup, a bushel basket or something even larger? If it feels too “small,” ask your angel for a bigger one – because you deserve it!
Now take that container and stand beneath your tree. All you need to do now is to gently shake it and let the money rain down on you. Feel all that money falling around you. Feel it as it brushes past your face and hands. Its an endless shower of money! It piles up around your feet.
Now gather it up in your special container– don’t be shy. Gather it alllll up, knowing that there is – and always will be – plenty. For you. For everyone in your life. Because this is your very own Abundance Tree.
Now that you have all the money you need – and know that there is always more where that came from – how do you feel? Take that feeling into your day, tapping into the endless flow of abundance that is always available to you.
Because the Universe does not want you to suffer for lack of resources.
Thank your angel for bringing you to your Abundance Tree – and know that you can visit it anytime you wish. Ask your angel to help you remember the wonderful feeling of having all the money you want or need.
Breathe in, gently coming back to the present moment. Open your eyes – but remember the feeling of having stood in the shower of your Abundance Tree!
So I know that I’m loving this exercise. Let me know YOUR results with it!
You know that TV show, The Long Island Medium? Besides her god-awful, freeze-dried hairdo, the thing that really annoys me is how she does readings just, oh, wherever. Waiting at the deli for fresh mozzarella? Read someone. On line for the bathroom at an AC/DC concert? Read. In a dentist’s waiting room? Read.
Yeah, yeah – I know these “on the fly” readings are done for the show. But you’d be surprised at how many psychics choose to read in the most inappropriate places. And that’s not good for them – or the person getting the reading.
I admit that I’ve done the odd quick reading for someone when we’re out to lunch or something. But over the years, I’ve learned that its really best to reserve psychic stuff for an assigned time and place.
Years ago, a girlfriend of mine (and a very gifted psychic) took a gig at a nightclub. She was a single mom and needed the money. But she admitted that the toll those readings took on her proved to be soooo not worth it. Not only was the space really loud (boom-chaka-laka), the clients were usually half in the bag/mad at someone who didn’t want to dance with them/desperate to dance with someone who didn’t want to dance with them.
She tried her best to protect herself from those janky vibes by loading herself down with crystals – but they could only do so much. That gig lasted only a few weeks before she gave up.
A similar place that is super-bad for giving/getting readings is in a bar. Oh sure, you’re having a few drinks with friends, and it comes up that you’re a psychic. All of a sudden, someone wants you to “tell their fortune.” You might be feeling a bit loose, so you’re like, “sure.” But I’m here to tell you, you will pay a massive price afterwards.
When you open yourself up psychically, its like peeling off a layer or two of skin. You will feel everything – literally. So whatever downer vibes are in that bar – and let’s face it, many bar patrons have a lot of downer stuff going on at the moment – you’ll pick it up. And will pay with the Mother of All Hangovers (trust me,I know. Boy, do I know).
Some of my students, excited about what they’re learning, have felt compelled to read total strangers at the grocery store or car wash or wherever. They tell me, “I just started getting all this stuff….” But that does both themselves and the “target” a huge disservice. From an ethical standpoint, it’s rude to insert yourself into someone else’s private life without their permission. From a physical standpoint, a developing psychic risks serious burnout if they’re not properly grounded and prepared.
Psychic or mediumistic readings are extremely intense energetic events. The reader is opening him/herself to very sensitive energies and influences; to some extent, the client is, too. That deserves a sacred space, proper preparation and focused attention — not standing in an aisle at Wal-Mart.
And despite any seeming sense of “urgency,” the truth is that most spirit communication or any other psychic info can wait for the right time. They want the information to get through in the clearest way possible – so they’re willing to chill.
So, if you’re psychic – hold your readings in a place and time where all the sacred energies can work with and help you. If you’re a client, give yourself the gift of the right time and place to fully experience this powerful connection to the Other Side.
Fellow psychics, tell me: where’s the worst place you’ve ever read? What were the results? And clients, have you ever had someone come up to you unexpectedly with a message? How did you feel? Leave it in the comments!
I was at a demonstration of mediumship last week, a gallery demo where the mediums would present messages from spirit-side to the audience. Because I was working the door, I had a unique perspective as I sat in the back.
As the audience members engaged with the mediums, I was made super-aware of how we Living types have Very Specific Ideas of what we want to hear from spirit. Some of the audience were dismissing messages right from the jump, because they didn’t exactly line up with what they expected. A few minutes later, of course, the message would suddenly come clear and they would be like, “Oh…..now it makes sense!”
It’s not unusual for us to set up conditions for messages from the Other Side: “If you’re really around, ring the bell in the kitchen…” “If you’re really OK, let me smell your perfume again….” “If life does go on, let me see a red cardinal tomorrow.” But those conditions are all on OUR terms – we completely ignore the other half of the equation.
The thing is, our loved ones in spirit are working on a whole ‘nother level. They are not our trained monkeys. They tend to send signs when we’re not so invested – that “surprise” factor has a better chance of getting through, because our screens are down. I wrote about some other common “signs” here.
They also tend to work with what’s right in front of us. One of my friends just told me a story of an old woman from his church who used to end their phone conversations with, “Have a blessed day.” After she passed, he wanted a sign to know that she was OK – and he got it, in the form of a flat-bed truck in front of him, with a mudflap that read, “Have a blessed day.”
He turned himself inside out over the idea of a message appearing on a flat-bed. Why a truck? But why not? It was right in front of him, where he was sure to see it. So there’s that.
We need to trust that spirit will let us know about their life beyond the veil in times – and terms – that we can really “get.” If we set up parameters and conditions, we might miss it. Like a sailor so focused on the horizon in front of him that he misses the magnificence of a whale breaching right beside him.
So please – release your expectations. Trust and believe. But set no conditions for hearing from them. Just know that you will.
Remember, if you’d like to connect with a loved one, get in touch regarding my mediumship services. Happy to help you reach across the veil.
A few years ago, I used to read at a local New Age shop. And you could pretty much count on getting some nasty piece of literature shoved under the door each week, claiming that what we were doing was “evil,” “of the devil,” we were going to Hell, blah blah blah.
I’ve gotten similar comments on Facebook or at my website. And, although I’ve been patient over the years, I’m here to tell you, I’VE OFFICIALLY HAD IT.
So here’s the deal. I respect people’s religious beliefs. But what I can’t stomach is medieval fear-mongering. As a psychic, what I do aligns with all great teachings, namely, helping someone evolve to something higher. And I would at least like the super-religious types to respect MY “religion.”
Psychics and mediums are tapped into a higher spiritual vibe. We are very aware that there is something greater than us, and we honor that. I think where it goes sideways for some folks is that an ethical psychic will always emphasize your free willin a situation. Anything that comes up is dependent on you taking action. This is where psychics and religion tend to part company.
For centuries, many religious leaders put the emphasis on that great spirit in the sky. “He” – and by default, “they”—were in charge. They could dispense praise and punishment, they ran the show. Conversely, the metaphysical world puts YOU in charge. And -no shocker- the establishment does NOT like that.
I’ve been reading Tarot for years, and discovered something interesting in my studies. The cards depict our journey, from being a straight-up dumbass (The Fool) to a more enlightened being (The World). Along the way, there are many tests and challenges (the minor cards), but ultimately, the individual is in charge of the choices they make (or don’t). I once read that this wisdom was put into “card” form so that the reader could scoop them up and be on their way in case the religious po-po showed up. Much less dangerous than a book, or a street sermon – which might’ve gotten them burned at the stake. Because “they” feared the power of the individual and how psychics emphasized that.
This, to me, is why so many religious believers freak out over psychics. But we are not here to replace or diss your God, rather to give you a different way to experience that kind of spiritual power. So stop already with the “devil” talk. We are not down with Satan.
And stop throwing shade at those of us who deal with the spiritual life in a different way. Like I said, I am OVER it. Just had to rant. Thanks for letting me off-gas my rage.
Once when I was taking a mediumship development class, the teacher gave me a long, penetrating look. That’s always a bit weird. Spinach in my teeth? Someone doing “bunny ears” behind my head? WHAT?
She took a deep breath, pointed at me and said, “You must always bring an animal through from the Other Side for whomever you’re linking to….”
I’m down with that. As a passionate animal lover, I love the energy they bring to our lives. Animals have their own wisdom and connection to the worlds. Even after they cross, they continue to impact our life. I wrote about this here.
There’s a stepped-up version of this, too: your Spirit Animal (sometimes called “Power Animal”).
I’ve discussed how each of us has several Spirit Guides at our disposal. These are entities who were once human and are available to help us navigate the ups and downs of life. Their 10,000 foot view of the Earth experience gives them a unique understanding of what we go through, and thus, some pretty kick-ass help.
A Spirit Animal guides us by way of their nature-based qualities and characteristics. Learning to tap into their presence will provide some surprising insights into our problems.
Like human Spirit Guides, you may have several Spirit Animals who come through during your time here. It all depends on what you need. Right now, I’m feeling the power of Bear: a creature who is confident, grounded and whose tall, fearless stance denotes leadership.
A friend of mine is seeing Hummingbirds everywhere, both in pictures and in real life. Clearly, she is being told to stay light right now – to trust that there is more going on, just like the rapid beating of the wings you can’t see.
If you’d like to meet your own Spirit Critter, here’s a great meditation.
Start by taking several deep breaths, relaxing more and more with each one. Envision a pillar of white light coming down from the Universe and filling your spine with its healing, protective power. Ask for the protection of any entity of your choice: Jesus, St. Francis, the Great Spirit – whatever feels right.
Now, imagine yourself walking through a beautiful forest. Really see the trees and greenery, hear the birds. Stay relaxed and don’t force this.
You hear the sound of a stream in the distance. Walk towards it. When you arrive, look around to see a gorgeous clearing all around you. The stream runs through it, the ground is comfortable. Take a seat and just relax.
Now, invite your Spirit Animal to join you in this sacred space.
This is a warm, protected place that only you and your Spirit Animal may inhabit; nothing can hurt either of you here. Listen and observe as your animal draws near. What do you hear, smell, see, experience? What animal is entering the clearing? Keep in mind, it might be a bird or an insect, like a butterfly. It doesn’t have to have fur, fins or claws.
After a few moments, ask your Spirit Animal a question(s). Go with what you get: a feeling, a word or phrase. Do you feel different in any way? This is the energy passing from them to you.
Once he/she has answered your question, feel free to spend some time bonding or playing with your Spirit Animal. There’s no rush, because you may return to this glade at any time in the future.
When you feel ready, thank your animal for coming forward. Now, retrace your steps back through the glade. Take more deep breaths, feeling yourself gradually returning to the “here and now.” Open your eyes.
After you’ve met your Spirit Animal, you may want to keep a reminder of them nearby. A photo or statue is a great way to keep their influence nearby, and allow their energy to infuse your daily life.
PS – And just because this STILL makes me laugh, here’s a revisit of the Ultimate Power Animal: Honey Badger!
